Brian Quinn - Director International Operations

ATECO U.K. formed with the mission to support the design, manufacturing, supply, installation and maintenance of products and systems for industrial liquid transfer and storage. Particular emphasis  was given to developing a product line for atmospheric storage tanks which includes amongst others aluminium Geodesic Domes, Internal Floating Roofs, tank seals, drain systems, Floating Suction Systems and Oil Skimmers. Apart from that a dedicated and specialist line of products for the safe and effective transfer and storage of chemicals and hydrocarbons was developed, covering engineering systems.

We make designing, manufacturing and installation of these products all around the world. ATECO U.K. offer a wide variety in products for the tank storage industry. Our main products include:

  • Aluminium Geodesic Dome Roofs for Storage Tanks
  • External Floating Roof Drain Systems,
  • Floating Roof Drain Seals, both for Internal and External Floating Roofs

Primary and Secondary Seal Systems for Internal Floating Roof Tanks and External Floating Roof Tanks.

We Design, Manufacture and Install a range of Seal Systems for Floating Roofs. We supply the complete seal system or seal material only. There are three possible mechanical seal systems that we would recommend for most External Floating Roof Tanks:

Mechanical Pantograph Shoe Plate Primary Seal together with Compression Plate Secondary Seal - This is a very robust seal system with excellent efficiency and long operating life. However it is the most expensive seal to install and maintain. To install the Primary Seal, access is required from the underside of the floating roof and this means taking the tank out of service for major seal repair/replacement. It also requires the addition of Secondary Seal.

Mechanical Lightweight Primary Seal together with Compression Plate SecondarySeal - Another very robust seal with excellent efficiency and long operating life. The Primary Seal can be installed and maintained from the top of the roof and therefore access is not required from the underside of the floating roof. This means it is not necessary to take the tank out of service for major seal repair/replacement. It also requires the addition of a Secondary Seal

Mechanical Double Compression Plate Seal - Another very robust seal with excellent efficiency and long operating life in fact ATECO U.K. guarantee 12 years zero maintenance required when the tank is operating normally. This seal can be installed and maintained from the top of the roof and therefore access is not required from the underside of the floating roof. This means it is not necessary to take the tank out of service for major seal repair/replacement.

Roof Drain Systems for External Floating Roof Tanks

There are three types of roof drain systems for External Floating Roof Tanks:

FFlexible Hose - This has been an industry standard for many years as a cost effective drain system. It is essentially a composite hose from a connection on the roof sump to a shell nozzle. However this system does have some inherent problems, i.e. hose can become entangled in the roof legs and tank internals. Rain water can remain stagnant inside the bottom section of the hose, leading to possible corrosion.

AArticulated Roof Drain Systems with swivel joints - Slightly more expensive than the Flexible Hose Drain System but is designed using rigid pipe sections to connect the sump to shell nozzle and this continuous slope eliminates any water being retained in the drain system. It is very important to use good quality swivel joints as these are a weak point in this type of drain system.

AArticulated Roof Drain Systems with flexible joints - Similar to the above but instead of swivel joints being used this drain system uses a ADVANCED TANK SYSTEMS Flexi - Joint © for Articulated Roof Drain systems which is much more reliable and significantly more cost effective.
